With instantaneous hot water and rapid heating of radiators, combination boilers also keep use of space to a minimum. What’s more, they make a great choice for most properties up to 3 bedrooms and one bathroom.
Maybe you have a home with four or more bedrooms and more than one bathroom and en-suite rooms. If this is the case, you may require an unvented hot water system to cope with the added demand on the hot water that a combination boiler wouldn’t deliver.
Mainly placed within domestic properties, this system does not require a cold water tank. Instead, it’s a cylinder that pulls water directly from the mains, and heats the water up as and when required. Thanks to this, you are not sat with tanks full of water that need heating and cooling! The hot water is on demand for when you need it.
It’s essential to have these systems serviced annual. Here at Total Gas Services, we’re able to carry this out for you, as well as the installation and ongoing maintenance.
Are your energy bills spiralling out of control? If so, it’s time to look at what can be done to your current system to make it more energy efficient. Our experts often attend properties where they don’t have a room thermostat fitted to control the home’s temperature, let alone TRVs (thermostatic radiator valves). These simple cost-effective controls have the potential to make a massive saving on your energy bills.
The savings can be so great that every boiler installed today is done so to the benchmark practice. Part of this practice includes the addition of the aforementioned controls to meet building regulations because of the savings made.
Upgrade to a more energy-efficient boiler by calling upon our skills and expertise. Whether it’s a regular heat-only boiler or a combination boiler, Total Gas Services will give you honest and impartial advice on what appliance is most suited for your needs.
Some boilers even offer a 10-year parts and labour warranty. Now that’s what we call peace of mind!
When heating systems are neglected and the appropriate chemicals are not added to them periodically to condition the water, several faults can occur. This includes excessive ‘air’ being produced.
This is not actually air, but the gas created from the chemical reaction electrolysis. This occurs when measures have not been taken to prevent the natural reaction of ferrous (steel radiators) and non-ferrous (copper pipes) metals accelerated by water contained in the system. By adding an inhibitor periodically, this chemical reaction is significantly reduced.
When this process has been neglected for a long period of time, householders will notice cold spots occurring in their radiators. Not to be mistaken by air in the radiator, generally these cold spots occur at a low point in the radiator - whereas air is at the top and as earlier mentioned can be a symptom of electrolysis.
When these cold spots occur, it is an indication that magnetite (sludge) is present and a machine capable of forcing it out of the system is required. This is known as a power flush, and can be very time consuming. As always, prevention is better than cure. So have some inhibitor added periodically, generally every 4 years or if the system is drained for any reason.
This is a powerful magnet, which is attached to the heating system, and it helps to remove the sludge that has built up within your radiators and heating systems. Not only does it help to protect the heating comments and the boiler, it also allows the system to run more efficiently! What’s more, the boiler’s lifespan is greatly improved.
